Dot has its own cloud computer and runs on GPT-6 Astra, so cloud work can continue while your device is off. You come back to results and decisions that need you. The launch offer is worth checking if you already have an eligible plan. Your first Dot is included at no extra cost, and deeper work has extended limits for the first month after launch. The first Dot is included, and the launch allowance is temporary *Separate conversations, deeper work and tasks handed to other products* The useful version of the offer is this: eligible Pro and Business Premium subscribers get their first Dot at no extra cost. [OpenAI's setup guide](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001530-getting-started-with-your-dot) says deeper work has extended limits for the first month after launch. Free and Plus are not listed as eligible plans for this rollout. [OpenAI also distinguishes the usage buckets](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots): Dot conversations do not count toward ChatGPT usage, while tasks it starts or manages in Work or Codex use those products' normal allowances. The docs do not promise unlimited deeper work. Pro access is rolling out to adults outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland; Business Premium is rolling out across supported regions, and Enterprise needs administrator approval. Check access in your account before upgrading for this feature. Dot launched on September 29, but not every user has access yet, including some eligible subscribers. If the feature is missing, update the desktop app and fully quit and reopen it; if the app seems stuck, try restarting your laptop or checking desktop web. For connection errors, try another network. Give Dot a responsibility that keeps coming back *Research, documents, data and software can become ongoing work* Dot can research, analyze data, prepare documents and build software using its cloud computer and browser. Connected tools determine what information it can actually reach. Start with something you already revisit: an event plan, a client proposal or a weekly research brief. Explain what should stay current and which changes deserve your attention. For a proposal, ask it to track unanswered questions and draft an updated version when requirements change. Read the first result and correct its understanding before expanding the job. That is a practical use of ongoing responsibility. ### 3. Connect the sources, then decide how it should reach you *Cloud work and access to your own computer are separate choices* Create Dot on desktop web or in the ChatGPT desktop app. Attach source files or connect supported apps. You can schedule recurring checks and review activity, scheduled work and completed results in its profile. You can reach the same Dot through supported channels such as ChatGPT, Slack and Teams, or initiate a call. Connecting a channel does not also connect your inbox or laptop. Local computer access is optional; local work needs the computer online with the app open. Give it clear boundaries for sending messages or changing shared work, and use its activity controls to inspect or stop tasks. A cloud assistant still needs the right information and permissions. ### 4. The other announcements make work easier to move and share *Space, synced Work, Sol and Ultrafast were part of the same conference* The [DevDay recap](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/whats-new/devday-2026) also introduced ChatGPT Space for files, Pages and collaboration, plus synced Work tasks you can continue across desktop, web and mobile. Reusable Codex cloud environments let coding tasks use a prepared setup while your own computer sleeps. OpenAI describes GPT-6.1 Sol as offering near-Astra performance at lower cost for coding and professional work. Astra Ultrafast is a separate speed option with its own eligibility, including the Pro 500 plan and eligible enterprise plans. These announcements support different jobs.
